3-day itinerary
Built for a long weekend or a stopover — covers the essentials without rushing.
| Day | Plan |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | City Bowl walk (Bo-Kaap, Company's Garden), then the V&A Waterfront for the afternoon and dinner. |
| Day 2 | Morning up Table Mountain (weather permitting), afternoon at Camps Bay or Clifton. |
| Day 3 | Full Cape Peninsula day: Boulders Beach penguins, Cape Point, and the Chapman's Peak drive back. |
7-day itinerary
A full week lets you add a Winelands day, a slower pace, and a proper day trip further afield.
| Day | Plan |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Arrive, settle in, easy first evening in the City Bowl or Waterfront. |
| Day 2 | Table Mountain in the morning, Bo-Kaap and the City Bowl in the afternoon. |
| Day 3 | Atlantic Seaboard day: Camps Bay, Clifton's four beaches, sunset at a beach bar. |
| Day 4 | Full Cape Peninsula: Hout Bay, Chapman's Peak Drive, Cape Point, Boulders Beach. |
| Day 5 | Winelands day trip: Stellenbosch and Franschhoek (see our Winelands guide). |
| Day 6 | Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden and the Southern Suburbs, or a safari day trip if you're keen to see the Big Five. |
| Day 7 | Slow morning, a Cape Town food market, last-minute shopping at the Waterfront before departure. |
How to adapt it
- Traveling with family? Swap a Winelands day for extra beach time — see our family things to do guide.
- Want the Garden Route too? Add 3–5 days and treat Cape Town as the start of a longer coastal road trip — see our Garden Route guide.
- Short on time? Table Mountain and the Cape Peninsula are the two hardest things to cut — prioritise those if you only have 2 days.
- Bad weather day? Swap in the V&A Waterfront, District Six Museum, or a Winelands tasting — all work well indoors or under cover.
Local tip: Build a weather buffer into your Table Mountain plan — if it's booked for day 2 and the cableway closes for wind, having a free slot later in the trip saves the visit.
